مونیخ () پایتخت و پرجمعیت‌ترین شهر ایالت بایرن آلمان است. در پایان نوامبر ۲۰۲۴، جمعیت آن بیش از ۱٫۶ میلیون نفر بوده است که آن را پس از برلین و هامبورگ، سومین شهر بزرگ آلمان می‌کند. مونیخ بزرگترین شهر آلمان است که ایالت مستقلی ندارد و یازدهمین شهر بزرگ اتحادیه اروپا به‌شمار می‌رود. منطقه شهری مونیخ حدود ۳ میلیون نفر و منطقه گسترده‌تر کلان‌شهری مونیخ حدود ۶٫۲ میلیون نفر جمعیت دارد. این شهر از نظر تولید ناخالص داخلی، سومین اقتصاد شهری بزرگ در اتحادیه اروپا است. مونیخ در کنار رود ایسار در شمال رشته‌کوه آلپ واقع شده است. این شهر مرکز منطقه اداری بایرن علیا است. مونیخ با ۴۵۰۰ نفر در هر کیلومتر مربع، پرتراکم‌ترین شهر آلمان است. همچنین پس از وین، دومین شهر بزرگ در منطقه گویش‌های بایرنی زبان آلمانی است.
